Ardmore has always had a knack for balancing smoke with sweetness and this one’s no exception. After a good run in a refill hogshead, we threw it into a pretty Pedro Ximénez barrel that thought it could clock off early to see what might happen. Turns out, even a tired PX cask still knows how to sweet-talk a Highland peater. The result is an honest, unhurried dram that lets Ardmore’s spirit shine through with just a dusting of dried fruit and oak polish for company. 250 bottles at a punchy 57.1%, because why whisper when you can sing?

Nose: Campfire smoke drifting through a bakehouse. Singed sultanas, toasted cereal, and a lick of honey on burnt toast. There’s a faint whiff of old varnish and raisins that fell behind the sofa sometime last Christmas.

Palate:  Sweet, sooty, and slightly mischievous. Think treacle tart made over an open flame, all golden syrup, dark malt, and peppery smoke. The PX pops in briefly with a wave of prune jam before leaving the grown-ups to talk.

Finish: Long, warming, and faintly leathery. The sweetness fades to reveal dry spice, charred oak, and a lingering puff of smoke that sticks around just long enough to say, “that’ll do.”
