Dailuaine is one of Speyside's great invisible workhorses. Enormous output, almost all of it swallowed whole by blends, and hardly any of it ever gets to introduce itself. This one did, because it got put in an ex-Ardbeg sherry butt and picked up a passenger. Sixteen years in cask and the Islay ghost is still in there, sitting under the toasted oak and the sherry like someone smoking two rooms away. Saline, sweet, faintly barbecued, then a long oily finish that refuses to leave. Seven hundred and thirty two bottles. Fifty cl, 57.4%. Stolen fair and square.
